JAY Dasilva insists Coventry City must ‘stay hungry’ after moving five points clear at the top of the Championship table with victory against Stoke City.
Dasilva helped the Sky Blues record a first clean sheet in five matches at the bet365 Stadium as Ephron Mason-Clark’s late bicycle kick settled the contest.
The win moves Coventry further clear at the top of the table and Dasilva praised the mentality of Sky Blues boss Frank Lampard who he used to watch in training when a youth player at Chelsea.
Dasilva said: “We can have the knowledge that we’ve had a great start.
“It’s something we need to keep striving to keep doing and keep going game by game.
“It’s still early, there’s a lot of football to be played. We’ve just got to stay focused and stay hungry to keep winning games.
“The manager keeps us focused and reminds us to keep our standards and keep going.
“It’s a surreal moment being a kid, watching him play and train [at Chelsea], and now working with him is a surreal moment.”
Coventry have now won eight of their last nine league matches as the Sky Blues head into the latest international break.
And Dasilva admits City had to dig in to secure their latest victory as he and his fellow defenders survived more than 11 minutes of injury time at the end of the second half.
Dasilva added: “We knew how important the game was just to create a bit of a gap at the top.
“It’s still early doors but it’s a massive win for us away from home with a clean sheet.
“We knew what was coming, we stayed focused, we knew we had to fight and dig in for the three points.
“It was a great finish from Ephron, we just needed that little bit of brilliance to win the game and he provided it.”
Coventry are next in action against West Bromwich Albion on Saturday, November 22 with kick-off at 12.30pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
