FORMER Coventry City assistant manager Adi Viveash has been placed in interim charge of promotion-chasing Middlesbrough.
Viveash joined Boro in the summer as part of a new-look coaching team under then Middlesbrough boss Rob Edwards.
However, Edwards left the Riverside club earlier this week to become manager of Premier League strugglers Wolverhampton Wanderers.
A club statement reads: “Middlesbrough FC can confirm that Rob Edwards has now officially resigned his post as head coach after agreeing a contract with Wolves.
“Rob had signed a three-year contract with ourselves during the summer, but after he made it clear he was keen to join Wolves, we reluctantly agreed a figure of compensation for both himself and one of his first team coaches, Harry Watling.
“Last Saturday the Riverside came together as one, players, staff, and supporters, and you could feel the sense of unity which is at the core of our club. To everyone involved, we would like to say thank you.
“Adi Viveash took charge of team affairs last Saturday and will continue to do so during the interim period.”
The speculation surrounding Edwards saw him stood down from Boro’s match against Birmingham City last weekend.
This left Viveash in charge and the 56-year-old guided Boro to a 2-1 victory which lifted the club up to second in the Championship table.
Viveash spent seven years as assistant manager to Mark Robins at Coventry before suddenly departing the club in July 2024.
He previously spent nine years coaching in Chelsea’s academy during which time he won three successive FA Youth Cup finals and two UEFA Youth League titles.
