COVENTRY City reached the 50-goal mark for the season with a come-from-behind 3-1 victory against Charlton Athletic.
A brace from Ellis Simms inspired the Sky Blues to a fifth straight win after Josh Eccles cancelled out Harvey Knibbs’ early strike at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
The win sees Coventry retain their 10-point lead at the top of the Championship table while Frank Lampard’s side have now scored 50 goals in just 18 league matches this season.
Charlton stunned the Sky Blues on 13 minutes when the ball broke kindly to Knibbs in the box and the midfielder finished from close range after the home side failed to deal with a long ball into the penalty area.
Coventry almost drew level soon after as Addicks goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski tipped Bobby Thomas’s header from a corner over the crossbar.
At the other end, Thomas produced a crucial goalline clearance with his head to prevent Lloyd Jones from doubling Charlton’s lead from a corner.
And Carl Rushworth then kept out Isaac Olaofe’s low effort with his boot as the visitors pushed for a second goal.
However, the Sky Blues equalised five minutes before half time when Eccles curled a low shot into the bottom right corner from the edge of the penalty area from Ephron Mason-Clark’s pass.
And Coventry completed the turnaround four minutes later as Simms rose highest to nod home Victor Torp’s corner from the left from inside the six-yard box.
Charlton spurned a glorious chance to draw level after the break as Sonny Carey curled a shot over the crossbar from just inside the penalty area.
However, the Sky Blues made sure of the points on 76 minutes when Simms finished from close range after Kaminski kept out Jack Rudoni’s initial effort to score his fifth goal in three games.
Coventry almost added to their lead late on only for Thomas to see his curling effort from 20-yards out come back off the post.
