COVENTRY City have submitted an ‘official offer’ for Portugal under-20 international Keyan Varela, according to reports.
According to Swiss outlet SFM Football, the Sky Blues want to sign the 19-year-old from Swiss Super League side Servette in the January transfer window.
The report also claims discussions are ongoing between the two clubs with no agreement reached as of yet.
The Swiss-born winger, who can also play up front, has scored two goals in six caps for Portugal’s under-19s with Varela qualifying to play for the latter side on the international stage through his mother.
Varela also scored on his debut for Portugal’s under-20 side against Germany in October earlier this year.
The youngster predominantly plays on the left and came through Servette’s youth system in his native Switzerland.
He has scored one goal in seven league appearances for Servette this season and also featured for the club in UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League qualifiers.
Varela signed his first professional contract with Servette in October last year and made his senior debut for the Swiss side the following month.
Servette currently sit 10th in the Swiss Super League table.
