COVENTRY City boss Frank Lampard and striker Ellis Simms scooped the Championship’s monthly awards for November.

The Sky Blues won all five of their games in November as Simms netted five goals in four appearances and also provided an assist.

And the club’s results saw Coventry establish a 10-point lead at the top of the Championship table, since reduced to five points.

Lampard said: “I’m delighted to have won the award. As always it is a team effort, and I would like to thank all the players, staff and everyone involved for their continued hard work.

“We have a great togetherness and team spirit here and we’re all looking forward to the busy Christmas period and continuing our hard work.”

Simms added: “I’m really proud to be named Championship player of the month.

“This was only possible because of my teammates and the staff pushing standards every day.

“Individual awards come from team performances, and the results we’ve had make this extra special.

“I’ll take the confidence from it and keep giving everything for the club and the fans.”

Coventry won games against Sheffield United, Stoke City, West Bromwich Albion, Middlesbrough and Charlton Athletic.

Simms found the net against West Brom and also netted twice in wins against Boro and Charlton.

Chair of the manager of the month judging panel, Danny Wilson said: “Same performances, same results for Frank’s Coventry.

“Brilliant month, scoring 14 goals and accumulating a maximum 15 points while also showing great character in coming from behind in three of their five victories.”

Sky Sports EFL pundit Don Goodman added: “Titles aren’t won with 11 players, you need a brilliant squad if you are going to achieve anything in football, and Ellis Simms typified this in November.

“Despite often being used as a substitute, when his opportunity came, he didn’t half take it.

“The striker helped his team cement their position at the top of the Championship with five goals and an assist.”

Lampard has now won back-to-back manager of the month awards after also winning the prize for October.

And Coventry have also claimed successive player of the month awards after Brandon Thomas-Asante won the prize in October.
