FOOTBALL - Frank Lampard hints at Coventry City plan for January transfer window

FRANK Lampard hinted Coventry City already have a plan in place for the January transfer window to aid the club’s promotion push.

The Sky Blues saw their lead at the top of the Championship table cut to five points following a draw against 10-man Preston North End in midweek.

Coventry return home to face Bristol City this weekend following successive away matches which yielded a single point.

And with the January transfer window on the horizon, Lampard admits he will look to what promoted teams have done in the past to inform the club’s recruitment drive.

Lampard said: “We’re constantly planning. We planned all through the summer and we plan again as soon as the summer transfer window finishes.

“A reality is, if we want to keep fighting at the top of this league, you look historically at what promoted teams have done in the January windows and where you need to strengthen.

“The endurance test in the second half of the season is big. I’ve spoken about overloading players so we have to plan for January.

“I’ve got a great relationship with the owner. Hopefully we’re all working in the same direction.”

And Lampard insists his side must find ways to continue to improve if they want to maintain their position in the table.

Lampard added: “It’s important to remember that we’re five points clear at the top of this league.

“A year ago at this point we were 17th. The work we have done has paid off to this point.

“We need to continue and find ways to improve every day and every week and if we keep that menatlity we’ll be okay.

“Bristol are a very good team who play with a very interesting system with a back three.

“We have to tap into what do well and understand that evreyone’s going to be concerned about coming to play us.”

Coventry host Bristol City on Saturday, December 13 with kick-off at 3pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
