GENEROUS students at a Coventry secondary school have been carrying out acts of kindness as part of a winter initiative to support hospitals, charities, and community organisations across the city.
Pupils at Eden Girls’ School have been packing gift bags, making homemade meals and writing messages of hope as part of the school’s Winter Gift Programme.
Each of the school’s Houses championed a different cause.
Houses ‘Service’ and ‘Teamwork’ directed their efforts towards the Children’s Ward at University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire, responding to a list of needs shared by the hospital’s charity.
Pupils filled a room with gift bags containing toys, toiletries, snacks and clothing suitable for all age groups, designed to bring comfort, colour, and care to young patients.
Houses ‘Ambition’ and ‘Respect’ focused on supporting the Coventry Refugee and Migrant Centre, alongside clothing donations for local charity Clothes Coventry.
Every form group wrote cards filled with messages of hope and kindness, to accompany donations sent to the Refugee and Migrant Centre.
In the school kitchens, Year 10 hospitality pupils prepared six large crates of freshly made sweet and savoury food.
From macaroni cheese and vegetable curry with rice to brownies and flapjacks, the dishes were cooked and packed on the same day before being delivered to Harnall Lifehouse, part of the Salvation Army, providing nourishing meals for those facing difficult circumstances.
Throughout the programme, Charities Prefects played a central role, leading collections, organising donations, and sorting gifts.
School Principal Shazia Akram said: “Through this programme, our pupils have shown how generosity can be thoughtful, practical, and deeply meaningful. Whether responding to hospital needs, supporting refugees, or preparing meals for those facing hardship, they have demonstrated empathy, responsibility, and leadership in action.
“These experiences help pupils understand the impact they can have beyond the classroom and encourage them to approach the wider world with compassion, purpose, and confidence.”
