FORMER Premier League midfielder Jeff Hendrick believes Coventry City are one of the best Championship teams for a decade.
Hendrick made more than 400 appearances across the Premier League and Championship before hanging up his boots in October last year.
The 33-year-old featured 79 times for the Republic of Ireland and took in spells at Derby County, Newcastle United and Burnley at club level.
And Hendrick, who twice reached the Championship play-offs with Derby, insists Frank Lampard will guide the Sky Blues to promotion to the Premier League this season.
Speaking to Compare.bet, Hendrick said: “I think they’re really, really impressive. They were good last year.
“I think they’ve got a fantastic manager. He obviously has them well-drilled. They’ve got some good, exciting players.
“They’re scoring goals and that is a good sign. If you look at the league table, they’re running away with it.
“They’re not going to have a dip in form. The manager won’t let them.
“They certainly look like one of the best teams I’ve seen in the Championship, probably in the last 10 years.
“And it’s exciting because if they do win the league and they get promoted, they’ve got a great manager, they’ve probably got a great squad, which they’re going to build on.
“I think they’re going to win the league, and then it can be anyone from second down who’s getting the automatic place.
“And then for the play-offs, if you look how tight it is, in the second half of the season there’s always a team who just finds unbelievable form, but I don’t think anyone’s going to catch Coventry.”
