FOOTBALL - Frank Lampard wants to 'inject emotion' into Coventry City ahead of Oxford United clash

FRANK Lampard must find the right moment to ‘inject emotion’ into Coventry City ahead of hosting Oxford United this weekend.

The Sky Blues head into the clash having suffered back-to-back league defeats with the club now only top of the Championship table on goal difference.

While Coventry have struggled on the road, the Sky Blues have won 10 of their last 11 home games in the league.

And Lampard admits his squad has suffered from fatigue recently but hopes the club can embark on another unbeaten run starting with this weekend’s fixture.

Lampard said: “There’s something about this period, where the gap has changed, maybe it’s a check for everybody.

“We’ve dropped a tiny bit, there’s loads of context to that, we just have to be focused on our job. We have to get our job right.

“I’m used to all sorts of pressures. It’s my job to stay as calm as anyone and find the right moment to inject some emotion.

“We can’t forget what got us here which is fantastic spirit and high-quality play. We just have to focus on that.

“The lads have done brilliantly to get to this point. We’ve done it with a smaller squad, we hit a bit of fatigue but now we start again.”

The Sky Blues signed combative midfielder Frank Onyeka from Premier League side Brentford on transfer deadline day.

And Lampard believes the arrival of Nigeria international Onyeka adds a different type of midfielder to his squad.

Lampard added: “He’s settled in very well. He’s a very nice and humble lad, quite quiet off the pitch.

“He’s trained really well, it’s very easy for him to integrate into the group because of how he is.

“You can already see the qualities he’s bringing in training, it’s a big positive for us.

“He comes in to help the squad and brings a different profile of midfield player to our team.

“His basic attributes of breaking up play, his physical capacity and he can move the ball well.

“I think he can bring and add a lot of good qualities and give us different options.”

Coventry host Oxford on Saturday, February 7 with kick-off at 3.01pm at the Coventry Building Society Arena.
