GIANT dragons, Morris dancers, music and a vibrant mix of folk and creative activities will bring Broadgate to life to celebrate St George’s Day at two free events next month.
A drop-in event on Thursday April 23 will run from 11am-3pm and is open to all, with Morris dancers and giant walkabout dragons adding to the atmosphere.
Celebrations will continue on Saturday April 25 with a second free event, where families can enjoy a day of music, hands-on arts and crafts, and giant dragon characters roaming through Broadgate.
Saturday’s event will also see the ‘Heroes Tree’ – an interactive chalk mural created by local Coventry artist Katie O, which will allow those in attendance to share the names and stories of their own heroes.
The events also bookend a free city centre Dragon Trail, encouraging youngsters to hunt for St George’s lost dragons around the city centre, with a prize for all who find them.
Coun Abdul Salam Khan, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Events at Coventry City Council, said: “We encourage everyone to come along and celebrate St George’s Day at our two free events, which will take place on the actual day and also the Saturday, so that more people can join us.
“Both events will showcase not only the rich cultural history of our country, but will celebrate the heroes and stories of many people who are important to Coventry and our families.”
More details about both events will be announced soon.
