GORDON Strachan believes Coventry City need to sign a player like Harry Maguire to help the club’s younger players.
Strachan managed the club in the Premier League from 1996 to 2001 and made 33 appearances for the Sky Blues at the end of his playing career.
And Strachan has urged the Sky Blues to make a move for Manchester United and England centre-back Maguire following Coventry’s promotion to the Premier League.
The 33-year-old missed out on a place in England’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad despite helping the Red Devils secure Champions League football this season.
Speaking to PlayUK, Strachan said: “Coventry City under Frank Lampard, they need three players who have played in the Premier League and understand the pressure.
“Someone like Harry Maguire at centre-half or Kieran Trippier at right-back. That type of person will get you through.
“When you’re a young team and you see these guys standing behind you, you think: ‘that’s all right, no problem.'”
