PARENTS and carers in Coventry are being encouraged to check whether their children are eligible for free holiday activities and nutritious hot meals during the summer holidays.

Coventry City Council’s Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme offers activities including swimming sessions at The Wave, ice skating at Planet Ice, football sessions with Sky Blues in the Community, and multi-sports, dance and coding activities.

The HAF programme is designed to support children’s physical health, social wellbeing and confidence by offering opportunities for young people to stay active, make new friends and take part in enriching experiences during the school holidays.

Coun Mal Mutton, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “It’s fantastic that we have been able to secure funding again to keep our HAF programme running this year.

“We recognise that there is an increased demand from our children in Coventry, and so we are trying to accommodate all eligible children as best we can.

“This programme has been immensely successful in previous years and it gives low-income families an opportunity to rest, knowing that the children are well fed and taken care of.”

Coun Abdul Salam Khan, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Equalities, said the programme had been a huge success in previous years.

He added: “We aim to reach as many eligible young people in Coventry as we can, making it accessible for them, providing fresh meals and taking the pressure off low-income parents who are struggling to find activities for their children.”

The programme runs from Tuesday July 21 to Tuesday September 1.
