COVENTRY City youngster Callum Perry has signed a new long-term deal with the club following a successful loan spell at Rochdale last season.

Perry helped the National League return to the Football League with a dramatic play-off final victory against Boreham Wood at Wembley.

The 20-year-old defender scored in the penalty shootout to help Dale end their three-year stay in the National League and return to League Two.

Perry said: “I’m buzzing to sign a new contract.

“I’ve been at Coventry for a long time now and I love the people involved in and around the club so I’m really glad that I’m going to be staying here.

“Last year was really beneficial for me, getting those experiences playing at Wembley and that massive game against York on the last day of the season was huge.

“Being in men’s football and learning the game was really important so I’ve got a lot of people to thank at Rochdale.

“It’s set me up for what’s hopefully going to be a big year for me.

“I want to come back as fit as possible and be ready to play football again.”

Perry joined Rochdale in January and made 25 appearances for the club.

He came through Coventry’s academy, featuring for both the under-18s and under-21s, and captained the latter side in the Premier League Cup.

The defender has also featured on the bench for the first team on seven occasions last season before joining Rochdale on loan.
