FORGET flowers – nothing says thank you like a giant mural.
That’s how local artist Tim Robottom decided to show his gratitude to The Myton Hospices for caring for his late grandmother.
The new community mural is located on the wall of Spinney Hill Fish Bar, and is designed to create a talking point about local hospice care.
And the project has been a true community collaboration. Spinney Hill Fish Bar owner Arun Matoo donated the wall as a prominent location for the artwork, while Charlie Kennel of Kenilworth Brick
Repairs restored and prepared the wall before Tim began painting.
Every element of the mural has been donated by local people and businesses, demonstrating the many different ways the community can support The Myton Hospices.
Together, their contributions have created a permanent piece of public art that will encourage conversations about hospice care and its importance across Coventry and Warwickshire.
In total, £4,950 was donated in kind through the mural, covering the cost of the wall, brick repairs, design, materials and the artist’s time.
Tim said: “It is such a great honour to have the opportunity to give something back to The Myton Hospices, as a thank you, having cared for my late grandmother many years ago. I want the mural to represent the temporal nature of life through the butterfly, and to simultaneously create pools of tears in a way that doesn’t appear morbid, but celebrates life.”
Arun, owner of Spinney Hill Fish Bar, continued: “The hospice provides outstanding care and support to individuals and families during some of life’s most difficult times, and this mural is a wonderful way to recognise the incredible work they do every day.
“We hope the finished artwork not only brightens the area but also serves as a lasting reminder of the hospice’s role in our community, encouraging people to continue supporting The Myton Hospices. I’m proud that my shop can play a part in creating something that will be enjoyed by residents and visitors for many years to come.”
