A GROUP of teenagers has launched a petition calling on youngsters to be given more of a political voice.
The 15 and 16-year-olds, from schools across the city, plan to present their petition to MPs and have called on other teens to put their weight behind their Generation Voice campaign.
More than half of 18 to 24-year-olds did not vote in the last general election and group member Tunde Saluwu, 16, claimed that had resulted in government policies focused on older people who were more likely to turn out.
The Cardinal Wiseman pupil said: “Our main motivation for Generation Voice is to compel politicians to take young people seriously when deciding their policies.
“By educating teenagers in school about politics and the importance of voting, our democracy can properly reflect the age group of the future. After all, young people are the future.”
