FIRE crews are tackling a blaze at a house in Coundon.

Three engines and a response vehicle have been sent to the property in Cedars Avenue, near the Cedars pub.

The first-floor fire is believed to be under control but has been described by West Midlands Fire Service as “severe”.

Crews were alerted to the blaze by former Observer man Wayne Lovelock who spotted the flames while driving to work.

He called 999 at around 8.20am today (Tuesday) and firefighters were on the scene within 15 minutes.

A man – believed to be in his 50s – had been in the house but got out safely after Mr Lovelock banged on the front door.

While waiting for crews to arrive Mr Lovelock said there were several explosions and items coming from the windows.

Firefighters are currently still at the property.
