BLAZE coach Mark LeFebvre is expecting big things from latest signing Derek Lee after he completed a move to the Skydome this week.
The 24-year-old split last season, which was first as a professional, in Europe with Tonsberg Vikings in Norway and Sterzing/Vipiteno Broncos in Italy.
He registered 21 points (seven goals and 14 assists) in 23 games for the Vikings and 11 points (seven goals and four assists) in 15 outings with the Broncos.
But Lee has opted for a move to the Elite League and LeFebvre is happy to have have his new man on board for what is shaping up to be an exciting 2014/15 campaign.
“I am very pleased to have Derek in a Blaze jersey this season.” said LeFebvre.
“He is a creative and dynamic centre who will bring offence and speed to our line-up.
“Derek is a young pro who will only get better as a player. I expect him to be responsible at both ends of the rink and be strong in the face-off circle.
“Every player we have signed fits into a role and all bring different elements with them to our line-up. Derek fits into what we are trying to build and will help bring us success this season.
“I am pleased with how our roster is shaping up so far but we still have some holes to fill. We are close on a couple of other players and hopefully we will have some more signing news in the next little while.”
Lee joins Mike Egener, Cale Tanaka, Ashley Tait, Russell Cowley, Ross Venus, James Griffin, Steven Chalmers, Mark Smith, Steven Goertzen, Connor Ranby, Ryan O’Marra, Kyle Bochek, Jereme Tendler and Brian Stewart on the roster for next season.
