BEES produced an incredible late fightback to snatch a memorable 48-47 win at Poole on Wednesday night.
Bees fought back from 12-points down with five heats to go and secured their third win on the road this season when Danish duo Hans Andersen and Kenneth Hansen notched a 4-2 in the final race.
And the result moves them level on points with fourth-placed Eastbourne in the Elite League table, with the Eagles the next visitors to Brandon tomorrow (Friday).
A turnaround looked distinctly unlikely across the first ten races with the Poole heat-leaders in dominant form and some Bees riders suffering problems with the exception of the in-form Jason Garrity.
Bees were twelve down going into Heat 10 with the scores at 37-25 but the comeback started in the next race when Kenneth Hansen and Han Andersen grabbed a big maximum 8-1 over Polish duo Przemyslaw Pawlicki and Maciej Janowski.
An important third place for Garrity over Kyle Newman in Heat 12 maintained the five-point gap which became three after the next race when Andersen held out the thrusting Darcy Ward for a win with Chris Harris supplying third place.
All of a sudden Bees were looking at a real chance for a point, but the meeting continued to turn their way in Heat 14 when Hansen took the win with Garrity holding Kyle Newman at bay which meant a point was guaranteed.
In the first running, Pawlicki made the start but Ward was too wide on turn two and came to grief – with the race crucially being stopped, leaving Pawlicki to face the Bees duo on his own.
The Pole again gated, but this time Andersen took care of him on the first two bends which also allowed Hansen through – and by the time Pawlicki was back into second place, he was unable to catch the Bees’ No.1 as the visiting supporters celebrated.
“It’s been an emotional night, we were dead and buried but we should be proud of each and every member of this team.” said Bees Promoter Mick Horton.
“The way we came back was amazing. Poole aren’t going to lose many around here, if any, but the tactical ride was the turning point. All of a sudden they were looking over their shoulders and we had the belief, and we had them rocking.
“Any team that comes here and gets a point is over the moon, because Poole are a great side. But Hans Andersen’s second bend in Heat 15 was out of this world, and we got the win we thoroughly deserved.”
