Crime prevention advice for city's students

Coventry Editorial 14th Oct, 2014 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

WORK to ensure Coventry’s new students have a safe and enjoyable time in the city is underway.

Neighbourhood officers from Woodlands and Whoberley have been conducting patrols in areas popular with university students.

The teams have been door knocking and offering a free security marking service which will see their valuables protected.

Students have also been told how to register bikes for free on the national property database immobilise.com.

Officers check the database when they seize property as part of an investigation in a bid to return the items to their rightful owner.

Sergeant Lee Foggatt, responsible for policing in Woodlands and Whoberley, said: “I really want to drum-home the importance of students locking their windows and doors when they go out.

“We recognise that we have a large proportion of international students living within the community and to ease the communication, a small number of officers have completed a basic Mandarin course funded by Coventry University.

“By working with residents, councillors and Coventry and Warwick universities we will continue to reduce the number of victims of burglary.”
