Cal Crutchlow fails to finish again in Barcelona

CAL Crutchlow’s season of disappointment continued in Barcelona at the weekend after he was forced to withdraw from the Spanish MotoGP because of a technical problem.

The Coventry-born rider had started Sunday’s race at the Montmelo circuit from row five after a disappointing qualifying session saw him finish 13th fastest.

And his bad luck continued when the 28-year-old was forced to return to the pits after only ten laps because of a technical problem which forced him to retire.

“Unfortunately also here at Barcelona I never managed to finish the race.” said Crutchlow, who failed to finish a race for the fourth time this season.

“We had a problem from the first laps with the bike, which was behaving strange and it didn’t allow me to ride the way I wanted to.

“Then a load of warning lights came on, the bike stopped and I had to retire.

“We’re not having much luck at the moment, but we have to arrive positive to the next race and try our best again.

“I’m not one to give up and Assen was kind to me last year so hopefully we can have a good race there and reverse the trend.”

Crutchlow remains in Catalan this week to take part in a series of IRTA tests as the Ducati team continue development work.

Team manager, Luigi Dall’Igna, added: “Obviously we are very disappointed that once again Cal’s bike had a problem during the race: it’s something that should not happen.

“We are analyzing all the data carefully to understand the true nature of the problem.”
