A NEW literary trail exploring Coventry’s roots in the written word will be launched this Friday (September 26).
The trail provides a fascinating tour of the city centre, linking local landmarks with their associations to some of the many famous writers and poets that have been linked with the city, from George Eliot and Philip Larkin to contemporary figures such as Peter Ho Davies and Benjamin Zephaniah.
Coun David Kershaw, CBE JP, Coventry City Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, said: “The Coventry Literary Trail is a wonderful chance for people to explore another aspect of our city’s rich heritage.
“I am sure that many will be surprised to find the number of literary greats that have been raised or inspired by Coventry and the trail is an opportunity to discover who they were and how they are connected to our great city.”
Local writer Eleanor Nesbitt developed the trail from a pilot at the Coventry Positive Images festival last year. The trail booklet has been produced after receiving funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
A guided tour of the Coventry Literary Trail will be held on Tuesday, September 30 and led by Eleanor.
