Coventry celebrates city's first Pride

A RAINBOW came out over Fargo Village at the weekend as Coventry celebrated its first Pride festival.

Young and old gathered at the independent shopping district and donned their most colourful outfits as they enjoyed street food, stalls and performances throughout the day on the main stage.

Following the landmark decision across the pond in America to legalise same-sex marriage across all 50 states, spirits were high and Coventrians came out in force to show their support to the city’s LGBT+ community.

Emma Harrabin, one of the event organisers and Site Manager at Fargo Village, said despite set-backs in the run up to the weekend the team believed the ‘show must go on’.

She added: “It’s surprising that Coventy – the city of peace and reconciliation with a diverse and peaceful people – had never had a Pride festival before.

“We wanted to get something together to build foundations for further Pride events and to get the ball rolling for Coventry Pride 2016.”

Observer photographer, Jon Mullis, went down to the festival and captured these images.
