Archery club smash their fundraising target

THE MERIDEN Archery Club (MAC) hit the mark on a sunny September morning by hosting a charity shoot in aid of raising funds for their chosen cause – Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

The fun filled day, led by the junior club at the MAC, was jam-packed with arrows flying into a range of novelty targets.

Based in the small village of Meridan, the club encouraged non-archers to turn out in force and ‘have a go’ at trying their hands with a bow and arrow.

Parent coordinator Christine Coathup said: “The children had asked to take a lead in the annual charity event, and it is a true credit to Meriden Archery Junior Club that they made the event such a success.”

Over £637 was raised on the day – a total that was matched by the Charity Aid Foundation via Vodafone – with a further £240 donation from the committee, making the grand total exceed £1500.

Children and parents from the club celebrated their efforts with a barbeque to conclude the high spirited occasion.

Club secretary, Philippa Lowe, expressed her thanks to all involved.

She said: “It was such an incredible day and I want to thank everyone who was involved both in the organisation and participation department.

“Everyone did a fantastic job and it’s great that we raised over £1500 for Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

“The juniors were so keen to help those children needing specialist medical care so we’re all very proud of what they achieved.”
