A special service was held at University square outside St Michaels’ Cathedral which saw residents, schoolchildren and special guests light up the city in a show of pride and dignity.
The Human Chain of Light and Peace was inspired by a similar event held annually in the twin city of Dresden.
Special guests taking part included local choirs, the Duke of Kent, The Right Reverend Dr Christopher Cocksworth, The Lord Bishop of Coventry, The Lord Mayor of Coventry and special guests from Coventry’s twin cities.
Saturday’s event event was given added poignancy following the tragic events from France referenced in the key speeches to reinforce Coventry’s message of peace and reconciliation across the world.
The Cathedral Ruins were bathed in the colours of the French tricolour as an additional symbolic mark of respect for the country as the Cathedral itself displayed the Blitz 75th logo.
