A COVENTRY man has been jailed for four years after killing a pedestrian in a high speed crash on Fletchamstead Highway last year.
Terry Davies, from Austell Way, was driving at a speed in excess of 86mph in a 40mph area when his Audi RS6 Quattro hit 48-year-old Jayson Craven in the early hours of June 21.
Mr Craven was killed instantly and pronounced dead at the scene. He left behind a wife and four children, whom he loved dearly.
“Jayson was a larger than life character who was deeply loved by the whole family,” said Jayson’s wife Cathryn.
“He was a wonderful father to our children; he was a really hands-on dad and loved taking the boys to football and the skate parks.
“Jayson doted on our only daughter and she would describe him as her world. The children are incredibly lost without their father and miss him immensely.”
Davies was sentenced at Coventry Crown Court on November 25 after he was found guilty of causing death by dangerous driving; he was also disqualified from driving for five years.
Collision investigator Sergeant Paul Hughes added: “The reckless actions of one man have caused devastation to a whole family and beyond.
“I cannot stress enough how the consequences of driving at speed can be life changing for everyone involved. Davies will have to live with the knowledge that he has caused the death of a man and left his family with a lifetime sentence without him.
“Speed limits are set for a reason and public safety is paramount.”
