Abandoned puppy discovered at Ricoh Arena

A PUPPY with a rare bone disease found abandoned at the Ricoh Arena is in need of help.

The stray labrador-staffie-cross was found wandering near the Arena by a member of the public and was taken to YourVets24 on Herald Avenue, Whoberley.

Unable to trace the dog’s owners, staff at the surgery nicknamed him ‘Ricoh’ and are now calling on Coventry residents to help pay for his treatment before he finds a new ‘fur-ever’ home.

Ricoh suffers from hypertrophic osteodystrophy, a serious bone condition which causes him severe pain and has left him unable to walk properly.

YourVets24 Coventry has already covered the cost of Ricoh’s extensive orthopaedic operation, including hospitalisation and surgery, but is asking local communities to help raise the remaining £800 for medication and equipment.

Sarah Newall, head vet at YourVets24 Coventry, said: “From the day Ricoh was brought to us everyone that’s met him has fallen in love with him.

“We just want to help this lovely pup get back on his feet and find a new home.”

Staff describe Ricoh as having a sweet temperament – ‘full of the joy of life’ despite the pain he is in.

The staff even take it in turns to take him home with them for the weekends, as he is too unwell to go into foster care.

Ms Newall added: “We know Coventry is a city of dog lovers and we are so grateful for the support we have already received for Ricoh.

“We’re now urging more people to consider making a donation, it all adds up so please give whatever you can, every penny counts.”
