COVENTRY BLAZE fired twelve goals past bottom team Edinburgh at the Skydome on Saturday night to further boost their playoff chances.
Without Boris Valabik, who was suspended, and Cale Tanaka, the Blaze dominated proceedings from the start against the Capitals who were missing no more than ten first team players.
Goals from Chris Bruton, Jordan Pietrus, Brett Robinson, Jim Jorgensen, Drew Fisher and Ashley Tait stunned the Skydome crowd as Coventry finished the first period with a seven goal lead.
A ninth goal was quickly followed by a well-worked tenth goal as English trio Russ Cowley, Ashley Tait and Russ Cowley teamed up for a tic-tac-toe finish.
A quick fire hat-trik from Edinburgh’s Trevor Gerling gave the Capitals minimal hope midway through the second period – though the second period ended 11-4 in favour of the Blaze.
Coventry added one more to their account in the third period as the game ended 12-4 – remarkably not the highest scoring game at the Skydome this year.
After the game, Blaze man of the match Renny Marr said: “Any ice time I get is great.
“I’m learning and to know my team mates have faith in me whilst in the net is great.
“I need to stay warmed up, you never know I may be needed in the playoffs should something happen to Brian (Stewart).”
Blaze player of the month Brenden Walker added: “My team mates are exceptional and I’ve settled well into Coventry, though it’s a little different to Canada.
“I’m excited for the playoffs and with an outstanding goaltender in Stewart I’m sure we can push on from here.”
