AN 18-YEAR-OLD apprentice accountant from Coventry has donated his hair and raised hundreds of pounds for the Little Princess Trust.
Sam Coombes braved the shave after his cousin, Matty, lost his hair through cancer treatment prior to his premature death in 2009, aged just 11.
To remember Matty, who is still very much missed within the Coombes family, Sam raised £350 for the trust – enough money to create a new wig for a cancer patient.
Sam’s hair was also donated to the cause in the hope that it can provide the material to develop a new wig.
Sam said: “I wanted to cut my hair and thought of my cousin Matty.
“I knew my hair could help make a wig for another child that has also lost their hair through illness.
“I also wanted to raise £350 for the Little Princess Trust so the charity could buy a wig in case my hair cannot be used – I want to thank everyone that donated to the cause.”
Proud Mum Fiona told The Observer: “I was surprised he wanted to do it, he’s into rock music and had quite long hair then one day out of the blue he mentioned it to me and it went from there.
“I’m very proud of him and it’s a touching way of remembering Matty who we still miss.”
