SKY Blues stars of the present and past turned out in force for the Coventry City Former Players’ Association’s annual Golf Day which once again was held at the beautiful Stoneleigh Deer Park Golf Club.

Around 20 teams took to the greens last Thursday and it was 1987 FA Cup winner David Phillips who took Carl Baker’s title to be crowned 2016 winner.

The team award went to ‘Lincoln Sky Blues, which consisted of Ian Wallace, Alec Perkins, Paul Smith and Andy Gran, while the wooden spon went to Graham Newton.

Fellow FA Cup winner Steve Ogrizovic also took part along with current City left-back Chris Stokes, scorer of the first goal at the Ricoh Arena Claus Bech Jorgensen and other clubs legends like Willie Carr, Ian Wallace and Ronnie Farmer.

Over £2,000 was raised for the CCFPA following an evening of entertainment which included a raffle and an auction.

CCFPA committe member Frank Pritchard said: “It was our tenth Golf Day and it was our most successful yet with more teams than ever before.

“The sun always seems to shine on us year on year and this time around it was no different. The day was really crowned off by the weather.

“The auction in the evening went really well too and we managed to raise a large amount of money that can be put back into the assocation.”

Next year’s event on June 8 already looks set to be another busy event with three teams having already signed up. For more information about the Coventry City Former Players’ Association visit ccfpa.co.uk.
