A GROUP of high-achieving teenagers from five Coventry schools have returned from a trip to one of the best universities in the country where they took part in activities to prepare them for life at university.

A total of 24 year 11 students from Ash Green School, Ernesford Grange Academy, Tile Hill Wood, Cardinal Wiseman Catholic School and Stoke Park School as well as eight other Warwickshire schools, have recently returned from a trip to the University of Cambridge.

The pupils took part in Clare College’s first ‘Plus Residential’, an access event designed to inspire the teenagers to aim high and learn more about life and study at Cambridge.

The diverse programme saw them take part in a range of project with postgraduate students, which included taking part lectures and conducting Neuroscience and Psychology experiments to examine ‘Sense of Touch’.

“The academic lectures were so interesting, especially as it was on a subject I did not know anything about,” said Molly Craddick, who is a student at Tile Hill Wood School.

“It was also really nice to discuss ideas in the supervisions. They were helpful and quite fun!”

Before the event, fewer than half of the students had thought about applying to Cambridge but afterwards, 83 per cent said they would definitely or were very likely to apply.

“We wanted to give high-achieving students the opportunity to get a broad experience of life at Cambridge, including academic learning and extra-curricular elements,” said Clare College’s schools liaison officer, Ben Leitch.

“We’re delighted the event inspired everyone and made them think seriously about applying to Cambridge.”
