OFFICERS from the West Midlands Counter Terrorism Unit have arrested two men today (August 3) at separate addresses in Coventry on suspicion of Syria related terrorism offences.

The men, aged 38 and 40, were detained under s.15 of the Terrorism Act 2000 on suspicion of financing terrorism.

Officers are continuing to carry out searches at the addresses this morning.

The arrests were part of an on-going investigation and intelligence led.

There was no immediate threat to public safety.

Both men will be dealt with under PACE legislation, meaning officers have an initial 24 hours to question them before charging, releasing or applying for a warrant of further detention.
