Coventry sixth formers exceed national average for fourth successive year

COVENTRY’S sixth formers have exceeded the national average for number of students achieving grades A*-E for the fourth year in a row.

In total, 98.4 per cent of students achieved A*-E grades, compared to the national average of 98.1 per cent.

Results for AS Levels also improved with 87.2 per cent of 17-year-olds achieving A-E grades – the highest ever pass rate – a third of these students achieved A-B grades.

As well as A Level results reaching an all time high, students taking vocational qualifications such as BTEC Level 3 Diplomas and OCR Nationals have smashed records with the pass rate increasing from 98.9 per cent to 99.2 per cent.

Coun Kevin Maton, cabinet member for education and skills, said: “Well done to all of those receiving their results today after two years of hard work, from students, teachers, parents and support staff.

“It’s important that our students explore all of the options they have available to them if they are uncertain about what to do next.

“There’s a huge variety of apprenticeships, traineeships and courses available out there that can all provide the routes towards meaningful careers. There is no single route to success.

“Organisations such as the National Careers Service or the Council’s Job Shop and your colleges and schools can give you help and advice if you are unsure about your next steps following your results.”

Validated city figures are anticipated to be released in January 2017.
