City runners offered the chance to run alongside Torch for Peace in nationwide event

KEEN city runners will have their chance to join in with a national record-breaking attempt as a ‘Torch for Peace’ makes its way through Coventry.

Taking place in October, runners are invited to join ultra runners Adam Holland and Rob Young on the seventh day of a nationwide relay which will see the torch travel 1,000 kilometres in just ten days.

Both Young and Holland have set mind-boggling record in the past which include the record for fastest marathon in ten days, most marathons in one year and longest run without sleep.

The relay torch was first lit and carried 500 miles across Kenya’s conflict-affected North Rift Valley last year during a ‘Walk for Peace’ by some of the world’s top athletes, including world record-breaker Wilson Kipsang.

A total of 100 spaces have been for runners to join the pair on each day of the event – which runs from Friday (October 21) until Sunday (October 30).

The event is being supported by athletics retailer Up & Running, and general manager of the Birmingham store, Jonathon Midwood, said he’s thrilled to be supporting the pairs mission.

He added: “Up & Running is thrilled to support the Kenya Peace Torch Relay, and members of our staff team are looking forward to taking part.

“It’s an incredible cause, and we’d encourage everyone to get involved.”

Wilson Kipsang said: “I would urge all to sign up to run for peace and save many lives.

“Join us to support and make a difference in Kenya.

“It’s very important that we bring stability to the area and also bring peace, not only to Kenya, but worldwide.”

All sponsorship money raised by participants will help UK-based charity the Aegis Trust establish a school for peace in Northern Kenya.
