A MAN has died after the vehicle he was driving crashed while being followed by police.

It happened on the A428 near the railway bridge in Church Lawford around 3.15am on Sunday (September 4).

Emergency services were called to the scene but the man – believed to be 43 and from the Coventry area – was declared dead.

No other cars were involved.

The victim has not yet been formally identified although his next of kin have been informed.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission have launched an investigation following the incident.

A Warwickshire Police statement said: “As is normal in such circumstances the incident has been referred to the IPCC and they have confirmed they will be carrying out an independent investigation.”

Drivers are being asked to avoid the stretch of road, which is likely to be closed all day.
