HOCKEY: A BATTLING performance by Coventry & North Warwickshire saw them twice come from two goals down to earn a point away at Finchfield in a ten-goal thriller in the Midland League Division Two.
Aqas Aktar and Dom Bell both bagged a brace as Coventry draw 5-5 with Finchfield to move up to seventh in the table.
Things started badly for the visitors who conceded an early soft goal with Aidan Johnson committing a rare error but skipper Dom Bell equalised soon after by firing in a short corner.
It was then Finchfield’s turn to capitalise on short corner chances succeeding twice within minutes so that they were two goals ahead at half time.
The deficit was cut when George Hollingsworth scored his first goal for the first team by cleverly deflecting a short corner strike past the stranded keeper.
But straight from a failed Coventry short corner Finchfield powered forward to score a well-worked goal.
Aktar weaved his magic and much to the host’s frustration, a defender made wild lunge which resulted in a penalty stroke and a yellow card. Aktar converted to keep Coventry in the match.
The visitors were forcing more pressure and shots were well saved by the keeper but with ten minutes remaining they conceded again.
With no substitutes available the valiant Coventry team, with Austin Pritchard and James O’Keefe pulling the strings, surged forward and a short corner fell to Akbar who coolly converted.
As the final whistle was about to be blown there was just enough time for Bell to fire home his second to earn Coventry a point.
