TRAMPOLINING: FOUR trampoline gymnasts from Central Galaxy Coventry Trampoline Club competed at the National League finals in London.

After being ranked in the top 24 nationally for their age and ability category this year, Amber Jones, Connor Brown, Jessica Clift and Becky Tompkinson were all invited to attend the National League Final at the LeeValley Velodrome.

The respective competitions saw each category reduced to eight after the first day of competing – and 12-year-old Amber Jones managed to secure 7th place on the opening day to book her place in the 9-12 female league two category final.

Amber finished 7th overall while her team mates all competed well as Brown finished 15th in the 15-16 male league two group while Cliff earned 16th in the 19+ league two category and Tompkinson managed 21st in the 19+ league three group,

The trampoline gymnasts completed two routines each made up of ten skills.

Their performances were judged on a points system which considered the difficulty of the moves, neatness and the amount of time spent in the air.

Performer and coach Becky Tompkinson said she first started trampolining when she was a ten-year-old, and has always pursued it as her main sport since.

She said: “Since I started trampolining I’ve always been interested in the sport and competed for the school team and at university.

“We have more than 100 members and next year we’re hoping to attract more.

“Training takes places five days a week and we compete on weekends, it’s a fantastic sport and way to make good friends – I’d definitely recommend coming along.”

The club trains at the Alan Higgs Centre and competes on a national and regional scale as well as holding fun competitions which enables jumpers of all abilities to take part.

Head coach Andy Cuming said: “I’m really proud of everyone who took part.

“They have all worked so hard to be at their best for this final.

“This is the first time we have had competitors at the National League finals and we look forward to entering more trampoline gymnasts next year.”

Amber Jones said: “It was an amazing achievement and experience to have been able to compete in the velodrome.

“To perform in front of such a big crowd was scary but to then get to the finals final was brilliant and I loved every minute of it.”
