FOOTBALL: MANAGER Russell Slade is taking a look at Cyprus midfielder Alex Gogic as he continues to look at ways to strengthen his squad before the January transfer window slams shut on Tuesday night.

The 22-year-old starts for the Sky Blues’ development side against Queens Park Rangers at the Alan Higgs Centre on Monday and will be looking to impress the watching first team boss Slade.

Gogic began his career at Olympiakos having been inspired to play football by his father Sinisa Gogic, who picked up 37 caps for Cyprus and enjoyed a three-year spell with Greek giants Olympiakos.

A lack of first team opportunities led to a move to Premier League outfit Swansea City following a successful trial in 2013 when Gocic signed a contract with the club’s development set-up having impressed former Swans boss Michael Laudrup.

Gogic has become a regular for the club’s Under-21s in recent years but failed to make any first team appearances at Swansea before being released by the last summer.

Slade is also using today’s match to take another look at trialists Theo Wharton and Navid Nasseri who remain on the manager’s radar and will partner Gogic in midfield.

Cian Harries features in defence alongside Irish full-back Darragh Leahy while Devon Kelly-Evans also starts and the returning Kwama Thomas is on the bench following a lengthy spell of the sidelines.
