A WOODLAND area has been created in Coventry after organisations joined forces to plant more than 1,000 trees.

A host of native tree species were planted near to The Alan Higgs Centre as part of a green initiative.

Co-ordinated by The Living Environment Trust, staff from Coventry Sport Foundation joined Coventry City Council in the delivery of the first of a series of Woodland Trust schemes.

Seveal woodlands are set to be implemented across the city in the next few years – and volunteers planted 1,500 trees including Alder, Field Maple, Oak, Wild Cherry, Rowan and more.

Raffaella Tentindo, from the Living Environment Trust, said: “The tree planting day was a fantastic event to get involved with.

“This was the perfect opportunity to help care for the environment, give a helping hand to local biodiversity and use it as a chance to raise environmental awareness.

“It was a team building event, whilst also giving a helping hand to local biodiversity.

“We hope now to see the woodland bloom, grow and become a beautiful feature over the coming years.”
