BOXING: COVENTRY’s Aaron Bowen is celebrating after winning the 75kg weight category at the Great Britain Three-National finals in Rotherham on Sunday.
Fighting for England and cheered on by a strong army of fans, the Coventry Triumph boxer beat current Wales Youth Champion Jay Munn from Penarth Boxing Club on Saturday to progress to the final.
The first round proved to be a close affair with both boxers getting a close look at each other but in the second Bowen opened up with long range jabs and close left hooks to the body which slowed his opponent.
The Coventry boxer started and finished the final round in the total control with combinations to the head and body to win on points on all judge cards
Bowen’s reward was a final against Scotland’s Ryan Reekie from Jonesy Boxing Club in Stirling and this proved to be a more difficult contest.
Bowen just edge the opening round but the second and third were difficult to call, with Bowen forcing the issue and controlling his combinations to the head.
Both the rounds were non-stop action but Bowen was the aggressor throughout the contest and won on points.
Bowen now has his sights set on the Youth Commonwealth Games in July.
