FOOTBALL: MARK Robins has confirmed his first signing ahead of the 2017/18 campaign as former player Michael Doyle.

Doyle will officially join the club when his current deal with Portsmouth FC expires.

The 35-year-old captained Portsmouth to the League Two title last season, making 46 appearances and scoring one goal.

Doyle started his career in Scotland with Celtic before moving to play under Gary McAllister with the Sky Blues in 2003 following a successful trial period with the club.

Following more than 250 appearances in a Sky Blue shirt, Doyle played at the Blades before joining Pompey in 2015.

Mark Robins said: “I’m delighted to welcome Michael back to the club. He has just captained Portsmouth to the League Two title and has almost been an ever-present throughout his career.

“He brings experience, desire and a knowhow to the team and his leadership qualities on and off the pitch can not be underestimated.”
