A TRIO of race bikes associated with motorcycle racing legends and world championship winners are to appear at today’s Coventry Motofest.
The Bennetts Suzuki GSX-R1000 – ridden in last year’s British Superbike Championship by Tommy Bridewell – will run on track to mark the 40th anniversary of the motorcycling legend’s first 500cc world title.
The GSX-R1000 will run in a red, black and white colour scheme reminiscent of the Heron Suzuki RG500s that Sheene raced in 1976 and 1977 to 500cc Grand Prix world titles.
It will be joined on track by Kevin Schwantz’s 1993 Moto GP Championship winning RGV500.
The trio of iconic bikes will be completed by a championship machine ridden in the past by motorcycle racing legend Phil Read, the eight-times world champion road racer.
The three iconic race bikes will be ridden in demonstration laps on the Coventry ring road circuit by Nathan Colombi, who regularly rides the machines at events all around the world.
All three bikes form part of the impressive Team Classic Suzuki collection of 70s, 80s and 90s Suzuki Grand Prix race bikes owned by Northamptonshire businessman Steve Wheatman.
Darren Langeveld, Coventry Motofest director, said: “We ran bikes for the first time on the circuit last year and they proved really popular with the crowds, so it’s fantastic to again have two wheeled action at the event and with such iconic bikes.
“We would like to thank both Steve Wheatman and Nathan Colombi for giving us the opportunity to run these renowned championship winning bikes associated with such true motor cycle racing legends.
“It’s incredible to think they are now going to be running on the Motofest circuit and they should prove one of the two wheeled highlights of the weekend.”
