FISHING: A SPECIAL anniversary date is being celebrated at The Junior Angling Committee in Myton Fields this weekend.
People of all ages will be able to try fishing at the Kingfisher Pool for free of charge from 10am until 3pm.
The pool first opened in 1996 after the committee received a grant of £18,300 to build a fishing facility.
Angling journalist John Wilson then opened the pool in June 1997.
Since opening, more than 2,000 junior permits have been issued.
Alan Jones from the committee said: “Fishing is ideal for children as it get them outdoors and creates interest in the environment and how it works.
“It is a sport for those with disabilities as well as the able bodied of any age.
“It teaches them manipulative skills, patience and self esteem and above all it’s great fun alone or in groups.”
