THE Lord Mayor paid his first visit to Zoe’s Place Baby Hospice since taking to his new role in May.

Coun Tony Skipper was joined by Principal Private Secretary Jane Barlow to take a tour of the facility after choosing the hospice as one of his two chosen charities.

Zoe’s Place is the only baby specific hospice in the midlands that cares for those aged 0-5 years-old with life-limiting and life-threatening medical conditions.

Treatment at the centre is free to the parents that need the support of the hospice.

Because of this, the centre must raise between £1.3 and £1.4 million each year to keep it open full time.

The Lord Mayor said: “Having seen for myself the wonderful environment available for the children, it inspires me to do as much as I can throughout my Mayoral Year to raise funds.

“Zoe’s place is an invaluable facility for the children of Coventry and the region.”

Jane McGaffney, community fundraiser, said: “It was a pleasure to greet the Lord Mayor and to show him our lovely facilities.

“I know himself and Jane left very inspired as to what they saw and the work that is put into such a wonderful place.

“It costs £3,600 per day to run the hospice, and support from the Lord Mayor will be a great boost for us.”
