Alvis put two past Loughborough to advance to second Midland League Cup round

Coventry Editorial 26th Sep, 2017   0

FOOTBALL: COVENTRY Alvis progressed to the second round of the Midland League Cup after defeating Loughborough University 2-1 at Green Lane.

Against Midland League Premier Division opposition, Alvis faced a difficult task.

But they responded well to the occasion as Henry Toro netted two goals in the opening 30 minutes of the game.

Alex Read kept Loughborough back in the game moments before half-time with a well-worked goal.

Realising they had to score to remain in the competition, Loughborough University proved the dominant force in the second half.

Despite several clear chances, Alvis defended well to book their spot in the second round where they will travel to Derbyshire-based South Normanton Athletic – also members of the Midland League Premier Division.

Alvis are back in Cup action this Saturday at home against Coventry Plumbing.
