A woman is in a critical condition after being stabbed outside a church in Coventry.
The horrific incident happened yesterday at St Margaret’s Church, Walsgrave Road.
Police say a man has been arrested in connection with the stabbing.
The 26 year-old, from Coventry, was held last night (April 8) on suspicion of attempted murder and is currently in police custody for questioning.
A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “Officers are investigating a stabbing which occurred at around 3:15am this morning (Sunday 8 April) in Coventry.
“Ambulance colleagues alerted police to a woman, thought to be in her 30s, found with a stab wound to her abdomen at St Margaret’s Church on Walgrave Road.
“She was taken to hospital with serious injuries, where she remains in a critical condition.
“Part of the church remains closed this morning while forensic examinations continue.”
Coventry Cathedral tweeted in reaction. It said: “We’re praying for her and for all affected.”
Police say investigations are continuing and anyone with information is urged to call police on 101; quoting crime reference number 20CV/77422X/18.
