Man accused of Daniel Kennell murder in stabbing appears in court

The man accused of killing Coventry man Daniel Kennell, who died after being stabbed during an incident earlier this month, has been remanded in custody.

Ryan Preston (27) of Hermitage Road, Coventry, appeared at Warwick Crown Court for a preliminary hearing after being charged with Mr Kennell’s murder.

The 27-year-old victim was stabbed during an incident in St Austell Road, Wyken, on Sunday July 8 and was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead, despite the efforts of paramedics.

Prosecutor John Butterfield QC said the ‘custody time limit,’ the time a defendant can be held in custody before standing trial, expires on January 8 next year.

But he said a date had been found for the trial to begin at the court a day earlier, on January 7.

Judge Andrew Lockhart QC said the trial should be fixed for that date, with a plea and trial preparation hearing to take place on August 3.

Told that there was no application for bail, he remanded Preston in bail until then
