COVENTRY Bears brought the curtain down on the League One season with a 14-4 victory over Hunslet at Butts Park Arena.
Chris Barratt opened the scoring for the Bears after five minutes, with Ben Stead kicking the extras to put the hosts 6-0 up.
A spirited Hunslet battled back but the scoreline remained the same at the end of the first period.
After the break Hunslet continued to hound the Bears’ defence and eventually their efforts were rewarded in the 50th minute when Daley Williams touched down.
Thomas Brierley missed the conversion.
When Hunslet’s David Foggin-Johnston was sin-binned, Bears’ Stead opted to go for the two points from the resulting free-kick to nudge his side into a four-point lead.
Ben Gray then bagged another try for Bears, with Stead’s conversion giving them some breathing space.
Hunslet tried to battle their way back into the game but Coventry held on to claim the victory.
Bears head coach Tom Tsang said: “I am proud of the lads and pleased for the supporters.
“Hunslet came down here as promotion candidates and we beat them, just like we beat Keighley and almost did it against Whitehaven last week.
“We can now look forward to next season as the team continues to improve.”
