A MAN is in critical condition after the second hit-and-run in Coventry in two days
The man in his 60s was crossing St James Lane, Willenhall, yesterday (Monday 8) around 7.20pm when he was struck by a white Audi which fled the scene.
The pedestrian was given ‘excellent’ emergency first aid by passersby and then rushed to hospital where he is undergoing surgery for critical injuries.
Police are urging anyone who witnessed what happened to contact them.
It is the second hit-and-run incident in the space of two days after a man, believed to be in his 20s, was tragically killed while crossing Allesley Old Road.
Sergeant Alan Wood said: “We have closed the road so that forensic examinations can be carried out. The Audi we believed to be involved will have collision damage and I would urge the driver to do the right thing and contact us.
“A man is in a critical condition in hospital, so I would also appeal to anyone who has CCTV or dash-cam footage of the Audi, which made off towards Binley, to get in touch.”
Anyone with information should call police on 101.
A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “When ambulance staff arrived at the scene they found a pedestrian, a man, in a serious condition being given excellent first aid by bystanders.
“Crews took over emergency care on scene before transferring the man by ambulance on blue lights to hospital.
“The man was said to be in a critical condition upon arrival at hospital.
“Police are appealing for witnesses to contact 101, quoting 2251 from 8th October.”
