BOSS Mark Robins says lessons need to be learned from the heartbreaking 2-1 defeat to Walsall ahead of Saturday’s home clash against promotion-chasing Luton Town.
The Sky Blues took the lead at the Banks’s Stadium in the 18th minute through a Luke Thomas strike but two second half stoppage time strikes from Luke Leahy ensured City slipped to defeat.
Robins believed Coventry would have won the game had they taken their chances.
“If we take our chances we could’ve been three or four up,” he said.
“They [Walsall] have not done anything.
“It was a horrendous mistake for the equaliser and then on the back of that the referee has given a penalty which is never a penalty.
“I’ve watched it back and it’s never a penalty in this world.”
Robins added he was reeling with the defeat after having the three points snatched away from them right at the death.
“It is very, very difficult to take because, apart from those four minutes we had the rest of the game, we should be talking about a great three points,” he said.
“The decision-making was appalling at the end but anyone can make mistakes.
“It was a bad mistake and he’ll have to bounce back from that.
“But what we stopped doing is what got us into the lead in the first place.”
With Robins making five changes to the starting XI after the previous week’s drubbing at Fleetwood Town, the City boss was pleased with how his team played up until the 90th minute.
“We talk about change and what makes us better and gives us better opportunities to win games,” he added.
“We have a good squad, we have to find a way to get everyone in and they’ve done nearly everything right.
“If we’d seen it through and won the game 1-0 then we’d have been talking about a really good performance.
“We’ve now got to learn about it, stay strong and come through it and not slip into bad habits.”
