A MAN has been shot dead by armed police during an ‘intelligence-led’ operation in Coventry.

A fleet of police vehicles descended on Burnaby Road near the Holbrooks area of the city last night (Friday, January 4).

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “Investigations are continuing today after a police operation in Coventry during which a man was shot dead by armed police.

“A warrant was executed as part of an intelligence-led operation in Burnaby Road at around 6.20pm last night.

“A 31-year-old man was shot and pronounced dead at the scene while two other men were detained by officers.

“The men, both aged 26, have been held on suspicion of being concerned in the production of cannabis and remain in police custody today.

“The area is currently cordoned off and a search of the property is under way.

“Body-worn video has been recovered from officers involved in the operation.

“The matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC).”
